RICHEBOURG- Bottled by Sichel & Co, Bordeaux.

An intriguing cellar find with huge potential

I have owned and stored this rare bottle in my cellar for many years and have no definitive confirmation of what it is, other than what the label indicates. It is clearly a very old bottle and likely to be a Richebourg appellation wine bottled by Sichel & Co, Bordeaux (Owners of Chateau Palmer since 1938)

In 1883, Sichel moved to Bordeaux and set up an office at 19 Quai de Bacalan, right at the heart of the legendary Chartrons district, the historic centre of activity of the Bordeaux wine merchants. At that time, the company was an acquisitions bureau which procured wines for the Sichel companies in Mainz, London and New York.

I have set no reserve as this is an old bottle anomaly, but surely a worthwhile punt considering the prices realised for Richebourg wines, often in the thousands.

With Christmas looming this is a real centre piece talking point, that could well be a fabled Burgundy which potentially could reward the bidder with a memorable experience.....
