Description

'One of only a handful of vintage successes in the Medoc, Gruaud-Larose continues to taste uncommonly fruity, deep, and round. There is no evidence of dilution from the heavy rains that ruined many others. This is a succulently textured, generous, perfumed wine with medium to full body. The 1964 Gruaud-Larose has been fully mature for over a decade without drying out. A sleeper! Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 12/88. 87pts'

'What a pretty young, I mean old thing this is! A dark brick core with light tawny rim. The nose is fragrant, incredibly sweet with cooked meats and toffee, similar to a Right Bank wine. The palate is well-balanced, fully mature with supple, sweet red fruits, a bit "Pinot Noir-ish" but delicious to drink. A toffeeish finish - I don't think this will last too much longer, but this is certainly one of the best Left Bank wines I have sampled. Tasted February 2004. 90-92pts'
