Description

One bottle of this sought-after wine in good condition, bought from the Wine Society in about 2007 and kept properly in my cellar for many years.

The bottle on sale is the one in the photographs. The labels are good and the level is well into the neck, just below the bottom of the capsule. There is no evidence that I can see of any seepage or issues with the capsule.

Wine-searcher gives this wine an average ex-tax price of £1240. Crop and Vine in London are offering one bottle, for that price, with delivery between 9 and 14 weeks. A bottle of the same wine sold on BfW on 17th November 2022 for £850, hence the reserve.

Some reviews:

Burghound 91...
Tight and reserved black and red cherry and plum aromas with sweet, intense, exceptionally pretty flavors that just ooze extract of pinot and completely coat the mouth. There is a lovely inner mouth perfume and this is utterly delicious if perhaps not quite as beautifully delineated as its 2001 counterpart. It is however extraordinarily well balanced and I very much like this with its mineral-infused and linear finish.

Very fine balance, playing it a bit close to its vest but undoubted quality. Fine freshness and minerality. Wait for 5 years and let the wine loosen up it should emerge a beauty.

Singing! Beautiful Les Cras drinking at or near peak. Beautiful translucent ruby red just browning at the edge. Classic mature Burgundy bouquet displaying secondary notes of forest underbrush. Beautifully clean on the palate with some primary red fruits remaining but complex secondly mushroom flavors as well. Absolutely seamless with a perfect balance of sweet fruit, resolves tannins and acidity with a long finish. Gorgeous!

amazing to say that while this continues to be more expressive on the nose its is still a young wine with unresolved tannins. beautiful nose but on the palate still restrained. dark red fruit that benefits from air.

A Winehog review:

The 2002 Chambolle Les Cras is starting to unfold some secondary notes, and is showing beautifully. In the nose rich and juicy red fruits, delicate sous-bois and a nice expression of minerality. On the palate rich and expressive fruit … sweet red notes .. fine length and focus, still with some focusing unresolved tannins. A delicate and delightful effort .. reminding me why Roumier should be matured in the cellar for at least 10 years to unfold the potential – and why I love the 2002 vintage. Gorgeous juice.
