Description

Well preserved bottle. The label is damaged where the vintage would've been printed, and "1951" has been written on by hand. So whilst I can't guarantee that's the actual vintage, I can tell you that this bottle was unearthed with various others from the late 40s and early 50s, so I've no reason to doubt it.

In fact, this is one of 3 bottles I'm selling from the collectiuon, and if you have a peep at the Taittinger CDC '53 you'll see that it has the vintage written on it in the same red pen, but also shows the corect matching vintage on the label.

The collection that was bought back to the UK from the Sates in 1950s by an industrious steward in the QE2 capitalising on the incredibly favourable exchange rate at the time.

Full disclosure: I've not tried any bottles from the collection yet, as I usually like to do before listing on BFW. so on this occasion I can't offer you any comfort about the contents. Obviously, these are VERY ancient bottles, but the level on this one is super. Always tricky to access colour through glass, but this bottle and the DP are the lightest in colour and look to be clear. Certainly the wine colour is lighter than the pics make it seem.

Best of luck - if this bottle is still alive it should be an extraordinary experience drinking it .

I meant to say this one and the Bolly 47are the lightest in colour and look to be clear. The Taittinger is a few shades darker

Description appended: 08/03/22 15:44

Have changed the vintage to unknown, as on investigation DP didn't release in '51. So I'm afraid we won't know the vintage for certain till the cork is popped. But I can tell you that the bottle was unearthed in a collection where the oldest bottle was 1947, and the youngest 1955.
