Description

For Sale – 6 x 75cl 2008 Deutz Cuvée William Deutz Brut Millesime which are currently held in storage with a UK Merchant Vat & Duty Paid.

The Reserve on this auction is £560.

Established in 1838 by William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, Deutz was a founding member of Champagne's prestigious Grandes Marques. The house remains today one of the most revered in the appellation. With over 100 hectares of their own vineyards, all in the finest crus of the region, they use nearly all estate grown grapes, unusual in Champagne. Named in honour of the founder, this vintage Champagne is rich, long with superb finesse, being made from only the free run juice and first pressing. In cool cellars 25 metres below ground, it matures on lees for 10 years adding layers of complexity to the fruit. The 2008 stands out for its energy and sophisticated flavours, "one of the greatest Deutz cuvées of the modern era" (Stelzer).

“The finest vintages of William Deutz display profound contrasts and contradictions, juxtaposing the exacting precision of the house with the intensity of pinot noir, and it is in the most energetic vintages that this accord finds its most alluring expression. No season exemplifies this more magnificently than 2008. It is built around depth and breadth, charged with an incredible display of the freshness of Deutz, and elevated and energised by ultra-fine, chalk-rich minerality that attains new heights of expression in this profound season. For all of its contrasts, it crucially maintains seamless persistence of breath-taking lightness. Youthful endurance is declared in vibrant lemon zest and young summer-fruit freshness, quietly touched with depth of brioche, ginger, vanilla nougat and toast. A prominent, mouth-enveloping, silky cloud of chalk dust is the grand highlight of a mesmerising finish, riding a laser-line of acidity of the utmost elegance… One of the greatest Deutz cuvées of the modern era.”
98/100. The Champagne Guide

“Served from the 375-milliliter bottle, the white-golden 2008 Cuvee William Deutz Brut Millésime offers a complex, concentrated and chalky bouquet; this leads to a complex, very pure and persistent palate with a lovely oxidative flavor. The finish is clear, fresh, long and very stimulating.”
95/100. Stephen Reinhardt for The Wine Advocate
