Description

One OWC of 12 bottles of Leoville Poyferre lying Duty Paid at BBR.

'This is a beautifully made wine, and certainly one of the two finest made at this estate during the eighties. The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple. A classic nose of overripe black currants, plums, and sweet vanillin is followed by a wine with considerable opulence, and a seductive, fleshy mouthfeel. The wine's low acidity and gorgeously pure, rich fruit with copious quantities of glycerin make for a beautiful tasting experience. Although the 1983 has reached full maturity, it exhibits no signs of drying out. Anticipated maturity: Now-2010. Last tasted 3/97. 90pts'

'A dark brick rim with a slightly more opaque garnet core. The nose is attractive and well-defined, with notes of dusty black fruits, singed leather and perhaps even a hint of sawdust. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced with surprisingly grippy tannins that coat the mouth with sufficient acidity to maintain freshness despite the austere, masculine finish with touches of dried orange peel inflecting the after taste. Good length. A lovely mature claret. Drink now-2015 Tasted March 2008. 89pts'
