Description

The Amaren Tempranillo is the flagship Reserva from Luis Canas.The wine is made from 60-year-old vines and aged 18 months in new French allier oak barrels.
The 2001 vintage in Rioja was outstanding.On 15th October 2012 Wine Spectator tasted over 200 Rioja wines and the 2001 Luis Canas Amaren was awarded 93 Points and took equal second place out of that vast selection:

"This maturing red is supple yet intense,with harmonious tobacco,cedar,dried cherry,mineral and sous-bois flavors.$55.00".

The Wine Spectator (15/10/2012).


This wine also won a Gold Medal at the International Wine Challenge,with tasting notes as follows:

"Dark fruits and creamy hints of vanilla on the nose.Herbaceous and savoury on the palate,with a rich and savoury dark fruit finish.Nicely complex with firm tannins.Still young and needs a few years to improve".



Excellent that the 2001 Luis Canas Amaren is,the 2002 Amaren appears to have as much praise from the two wine tasters (only) on CellarTracker who have tasted this wine:-

"Garnet color and aromas of black pepper,oak,and tobacco.It's balanced and flavours of mushroom,walnut,tobacco,and prune.with a medium/full-body.Smooth texture with a medium finish - A Winner! Well aged with still great tannins,perfect balance,great personality! Just thought a bit short aftertaste".
