1999 Chateau de Valandraud (90 Points WS) St.Emilion Grand Cru. No Reserve
Arrow

Description

"Lovely wine. Aromas of black licorice, berry and violets. Lots of tobacco. Medium to full bodied, with a solid core of tannins and fruit and a long finish. Best after 2004. 1250 cases made".
(92 Points).

James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator. March 2002).

"Merlot 70%, Cabernet Franc 30%. An attractive, rather dusky hue. Not so expressive on the nose, but it has a lovely composition on the palate. It is quite silky in its build; it has softly polished tannins, but with rather firm acidity beneath. It remains firmly composed through the finish, where there is a lingering tannic backbone. Good wine from a lesser vintage".
(17+ Points).

Chris Kissack. (February 2008).

Two more recent tasting notes on 1999 Chateau de Valandraud:-

"Clear, deep, purple, a lot of large-flakes deposit, quick tears in 2 lines; nose: clean, pronounced intensity, dark overripe fruits, plum, jerez notes, a bit spicy, capsicum, opens with sweetness, prune, cedar notes, liquorice, fully developed; palate: acidity med, alcohol med+, tannin med+, body full, pronounced intensity, dark ripe fresh berries, plum, cherry, delicate spice, sweetness, prune, finish med. Outstanding, drink now, perhaps has yet some potential for aging. Complex, deep and intensive, mouthfiling wine, with fine-grained tannin".
(92 Points).

Cellartracker. (10/9/2015).

"Fully mature, there is still ample, round textured, sweet, cherry, red and dark plum, paired with truffle and cocoa in this medium bodied wine to please the palate. But it's not a wine to keep for further development".
(92 Points).

Jeff Leve. (The Wine Cellar Insider. 16/4/2017).
