Description

This should be a classic fine mature Rioja,drinking at its peak.Thus,the last two tasting notes on this wine on Cellartracker were:-

"Brick orange colour.Smells rich - cloves, cinnamon, tobacco and some balsamic meaty notes.
Still plenty of fruit here, strawberries, some tannin left still, this is impressive, still plenty of power, rich with layers of tobacco, very long
Heady stuff, showing fantastically well, probably at its peak but no hurry to drink".

"Popped and poured. Light to medium ruby color with hints of garnet. Pretty nose of red and black cherry, some balsamic notes, plum and just a faint hint of sweet pipe tobacco. Similar flavors on the palate with spicy red fruit and sweet oak in the background. Medium to medium+ acidity, tannins fully resolved. Drinks lightly on the palate but in a good way. I would drink up if holding any as this is in a really good spot right now and I am not sure about its long term ability to hold up".

This blend of Tempranillo (75%) and Ganacha (25%) is deep cherry red. The aroma is a perfect harmony from ripe fruit and the maturation in American oak casks. The flavor is powerful, spicy, round, enveloping and vigorous. All the varied flavours are bound together in elegant harmony. The aftertaste is long, pleasurable and insistent.
The fine colour, good extract, high alcoholic content and ideal pH and acidity lead us to believe that this vintage will turn out to be one of the great Rioja vintages. The determining factor was the weather. The winter was milder and drier than usual. Growth started early but was slowed by cold weather in April. The summer weather was ideal so that the grapes were ready for picking very early, during the first fortnight of September.
