Description

From one of Pomerol's leading estates, a bottle of 1978 (4O year Birthdays...) in very good original order with a good complete label, a level at Base of neck.

A thrilling nose of bright red fruit, potpourri, violets and earth. Really a 98 point nose. Lovely fresh fruit on the palate, but this started to fall apart after an hour or so. Became a little bitter on the phone. Medium finish. Nice surprise.

Mature, tart red fruit and earth. Lighter-medium bodied, and well resolved at this point with little overt structure but a nice balance. Nice.

Saturday Tasting Group : Lovely funky aromas. Rustic raspberries. Dried herbs and autumnal leaves. Touch of smoky bacon fat and sweet spice.
Fading palate is real acidic and showing more of than rustic leaf. A little eucalyptus. Very Burgundian in some stinky ways. Interesting.

"Brick rim with a light brick red core. Initially the nose was fresh and very sweet. Then developing in the glass with notes of liquorice, caramel and increasing acidity, which eventually breaks down the nose. The palate is still surprisingly fresh. This must have been very attractive in the 1980's. Growing old gracefully and still drinking well."
